2 Months- I curled my hair last night using simple pink sponge rollers. I use one pack of pink and one of black. This was my second attempt at trying something different. I'm still uncomfortable about about my scalp. I haven't ordered the Soft Spikes yet. I'm sure it would be look better with the spikes and the curl would last longer with a setting lotion.

First Retightening- I've been doing more swimming lately so I had sufficient slippage around the edges and back. My consultant was very nice to repair my locks. I didn't take any pictures. :( My scalp feels so naked. So nothing to blog about.

Today was a great day. I spent time with family and friends taking a swim and enjoying the Florida sun. It was great not to think about my hair!
After such a great day its time. Time for what you ask? Now that my hair journey has begun my journey to a healthier me is the next step. I've been reading other blogs about cleansers and fasting. Looking over the pictures we took today I don't recognize myself. So if you have any words of wisdom or links you would like to share let me know.

Pic of my grandson enjoying a dip in the pool from the plantation heat here in Florida.

I saw them staring today trying to figure out what exactly is going on with my hair. Most not bold enough to asked. The usual question is it braids? How long did that take? Locks!? Why are they so small?

Day 10

Day 10- Today I'm not feeling my SL's in the front top portion. It's not filling in fast enough. The back is growing on me. I can't stop touching them. This process is very frustrating for me and is testing my patience. There has been a lot of shrinking (approx 3 inches) over the last few days.

Photo on Below is Day 8. Left Day 9 close up.

I know this journey is not all about my hair. I'm changing, growing and learning in all avenues of my life. I'm open to what God has in store.

Day 1 with Sisterlocks. I wet my hair so that the my ends would look more controlled. My head was a little sore, however not as sore as my butt from sitting for hours and hours. When I went out I felt as if all eyes were on me and looking right at my scalp.

5/24/09 Finally all done!! I have to lay down...my butt.

5/24/09 One section to go.
5/23/09 One section completed last night. This took about 5 1/2 hours. I was thinking at this point why I didn't just cut it shorter. Cutting my hair could have cut the time in half.

Giving Birth

5/22/09 I got up, washed and brushed my hair as I knew it for the last time. I was very nervous that morning. My ponytail was about 15 inches long. I also had concerns about the spacing between the locks due to the thinness. I know it would take a long time to complete the process. I thought maybe 24 hours due to the length of my hair. I packed a few snacks, charged up my MP3 and make sure I had a few changes of clothes. My SL consultant was located too far away to come home and go right back. So I moved in the the weekend.

New Beginnings

Today marks my first attempt at this blog thing. So here I go. I'd let to take you with me on my Sisterlock journey. I have always had a interesting love hate relationship with my hair. I can remember my mom curling my hair with water, pencil and V05 creating ringlets. As I grew older I wanted hair like the other girls in middle school. So you know what I did? I got a Jerry Curl! It never turned out like I thought it would. I had it for about a year. You know what happened next. My hair broke off to about an inch. I had never had short hair. So I began to getting extensions. I decided to relaxed my hair in high school my sophomore year. In 2001, I started to notice a difference in the volume of my hair. My hair has always been fine, curly and spongy but to unknown factors like medications, stress, heredity etc. the fronts thickness was decreasing. So I went back to my roots "a la natural". I've finally found what I've been looking for... "Sisterlocks". I'm looking forward to my new found freedom. It's been 4 days since the birth of my Sisterlocks. I'll be sharing photos along the way.
